A school-nurse screening is quick by design. It checks how well a child reads letters on a distant chart, and little else. A child who can see the board but can't focus comfortably up close, whose eyes don't team together well, or who has an eye-health issue building quietly can pass that screening and still struggle. What the exam actually covers
Here it is a real comprehensive exam, not letters on a wall. Dr. Hyder checks visual acuity at both distance and near, how well the eyes focus and work together as a team, and takes a refraction to measure any glasses prescription. He also looks at your child's overall eye health.

Isn't the school screening enough?
A screening is a fast distance check, and it's a helpful early flag, but it isn't a full exam. It can miss focusing problems, eye-teaming issues, and eye-health concerns. A comprehensive exam looks at all of it.
What age should my child start?
We see children from about age 4 to 5. If you have a question about a younger child, call us at (281) 488-0066 and we'll help you decide when the time is right.
Is it covered by insurance?
We accept most vision and medical plans, including VSP, EyeMed, Superior, Aetna, BCBS, Medicare, Cigna, and Tricare. Coverage varies by plan, so call (281) 488-0066 and we'll help you check yours before the visit.
My child struggles with reading. Do you offer therapy programs for that?
We focus on comprehensive eye exams, and we don't offer therapy programs or eye exercises for reading difficulties here. If your child's exam points to a need for that kind of care, we'll help point you toward the right specialist.
