Waiting on a box

You needed to see by Monday, not next week

You run low on contacts, or you want to try them for the first time, and the usual path is an exam, then an order, then several days of waiting for boxes to arrive before you can wear anything. Or a value counter hands you a box off the shelf that was never actually fitted to your eye. Meanwhile you have a trip, a game, or a Monday you needed to see clearly for - and waiting isn't really an option.

We keep trial lenses on hand, so for a common prescription we can fit you and send you home wearing them the same visit. We won't invent a turnaround promise: same-day depends on your prescription and what we have in stock, so call ahead and we'll confirm before you make the trip. This is the kind of care we built the practice around - Clear Lake and Bay Area families and adults who want thorough, personal eye care from a doctor who takes the time, not a rushed big-box fix.

Inside the Eye Trends practice in Clear Lake, where a same-day contact-lens fitting is measured and checked in person

Inside the fitting

What happens when you're fitted the same day

  • Measuring the curvature and surface of your cornea, so the lens is shaped to your eye and not to an average.
  • Checking your tear film, so the lens stays comfortable through a whole day instead of drying out by mid-afternoon.
  • Selecting a trial lens from what we keep in the office, matched to your prescription.
  • Hands-on coaching for a first-time wearer: how to get a lens in and out, and how to clean, store, and handle it before you leave.
  • A last look on the eye - the doctor watches how the trial lens centers and moves each time you blink, then sends you home wearing it.

We stock trial lenses for the common prescriptions. Some fits - strong astigmatism, reading-age vision, or eyes a soft lens can't quite hold - call for a toric, multifocal, or rigid lens that's custom-ordered and finished over a follow-up rather than the same day. And a small number of specialty fittings, for eyes with an irregular or surgically-changed cornea, fall outside what we do here; if that's you, we'll tell you honestly and point you to the right specialist instead of guessing at it.

What you get

Three things you get from a fitting done right

Not a box handed across a counter. A fit measured on your own eye, confirmed before you commit, and worn home the day you come in.

01

You leave wearing them today

Trial lenses on your eyes before you walk out the door - not a promise to call when boxes arrive. For the common prescriptions we keep on hand, you go home seeing, and get on with your day.

02

A fit measured on your own eye

The lens is matched to the shape of your eye, so it's comfortable and clear - not just "close enough" pulled off a shelf. A lens that only sort of fits is the one that dries out by mid-afternoon or blurs when you have astigmatism; a measured one isn't.

03

The doctor confirms it before you commit

This is unhurried care, not a fifteen-minute conveyor belt. Dr. Hyder gives you a real thirty-minute visit where we talk, we visit, and he checks how the trial lens centers and moves on your eye - confirming it sits right before you ever commit to a box.

Not a value counter

A lens fitted to your eye, not a box off the shelf

At a big-box value counter you see whoever is on shift, get a box off the shelf, and start over with a new person every time you come in. That's the impersonal, transactional model - fine for grabbing a quick pair, wrong for a lens fitted to your eye.

Here it goes the other way. Dr. Hyder fits you himself, hands you trial lenses to wear home the same day, and keeps a note of exactly what worked - so next year's check, or your next reorder, starts from what already fit you, not from scratch.

Why trust us

A fit that starts from what worked

The reason a same-day fit goes quicker and more comfortably here is continuity. Dr. Hyder has fitted Clear Lake contact-lens wearers for 42 years, here since 1984. He already knows your eyes, your history, and which lens worked for you before - a chart that remembers what fit, something a rotating chain counter can't offer. We won't dress it up with an invented comfort number or a success rate. We'll just remember what fit, and start there.

Common questions

Honest answers

Can I really wear them home today?

Yes - when your prescription checks out and we have your trial lenses in stock. Because same-day depends on both, call ahead first: tell us what you wear or what you're after, and we'll confirm we can fit you before you come in.

Do I need a current exam first?

A contact-lens fitting is required before we can dispense lenses, and it's separate from a glasses prescription. If it's been a while, no problem - we do the exam and the fitting together in the same appointment.

Is the fitting covered by insurance?

A contact-lens fitting is often billable. We accept most major vision and medical plans - VSP, EyeMed, and Superior, plus medical plans like Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, and Tricare - and we're glad to help you check your coverage before you come in. We don't quote prices online; call (281) 488-0066 and we'll walk through it with you.
