What we fit
The three specialty lenses we fit, and how the fitting works
- Toric lenses for astigmatism, soft lenses built to hold their orientation so astigmatism does not blur back in through the day.
- Gas-permeable (GP) rigid lenses for demanding prescriptions, custom-ordered rigid lenses that keep their shape on the eye and correct a strong or difficult prescription more precisely than a soft lens usually manages.
- Multifocal lenses for presbyopia, one lens that carries both near and far, so you can read a menu and see across the room without reaching for readers.
Every one of these starts the same way: careful measurement of the curvature and surface of your cornea, a trial lens on the eye so we can watch how it centers and moves each time you blink, and follow-up visits to confirm the comfort and the clarity both hold.
We fit toric, gas-permeable, and multifocal lenses, and those three fittings cover the large majority of the difficult prescriptions we see.
Some eyes, an irregular or surgically-changed cornea, for instance, need a specialty lens that falls outside those three fittings. That kind of lens is outside our scope, and if your eyes need it we will tell you honestly and point you to the right specialist rather than guess at it.

A fitting we work through, not a box off the shelf
At a big-box value counter you get whoever is working that day and a lens off the shelf. When a fit looks involved, it is easier for them to hand you a box and move on than to work it through. That is the impersonal, transactional model, fine for a quick standard pair, wrong for an eye that needs a real fitting.
Here it goes the other way. We measure a demanding eye, try the lens on it, and adjust over follow-up visits until it is right, then keep a note of exactly what worked. So next year's renewal starts from the lens that already fit you, not from scratch. We compete on the fit and the relationship, never on a coupon.

Honest answers before you book
I have been told my eyes are too hard to fit. Can you help?
Often, yes. A lens built to your eye often succeeds where a standard soft lens cannot. We will tell you honestly at the fitting whether a specialty fitting is right for your eyes, and if your eyes need a lens that falls outside the three we fit, we will say so plainly and refer you rather than guess.
Does it take more than one visit?
Sometimes. A hard-to-fit lens can need a trial and a follow-up or two to get right, because we are refining the fit on your actual eye rather than pulling a stock lens off a shelf. That patience is the point, it is how the lens ends up comfortable instead of merely close.
Is it covered by insurance?
A contact-lens fitting is often billable. We accept most major vision and medical plans, VSP, EyeMed, and Superior, plus medical plans like Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, and Tricare, and we are glad to help you check your coverage before you come in. There is no surgery performed at our office; the specialty fittings we do here are the three lens types described above.
